We don't see things as they are, but as we are. The old tale of technology is that it’s objective. However, like many other things created by humans, technology is too vulnerable to human bias. The wave of artificial intelligence magnifies the issue, as human-based data is fed into large language models and text-to-image generators reinforce societal bias.
As with many other aspects of life, technology and artificial intelligence have become part of the design process. The project serves as a collaborative handbook for creatives to share their experiences and knowledge of tech, to navigate this complex issue together, and as a reminder of how differently computers and technology work from the human mind.

Herningsholm is an educational institution with more than 40 programs and 2,500 yearly students that range from mature adults to those as young as 15 years old. Each student with a different passion, personality, and interest.
To represent the diversity amongst the students, we designed a simple, yet playful aesthetic meant to be customized. We made stickers that describe the students. The number of stickers, their color, and describing words can be used to tone down or make the aesthetic more expressive.

Badeanstalten Spanien has welcomed the public for over a hundred years. In its early years, the pool operated as public baths and was admired for its technological ingenuity and functional design. Today, it's a public swimming pool with a beautiful interior.
The project explores what a swimming pool can be, specifically for people struggling with their mental well-being: a communal space to ease the mind.
The digital communication is designed with care to ease barriers related to attending the pool e.g., by easily answering questions like: Is the pool busy? Are any areas closed? How are the facilities like? Do I have to shower with others?

Deliverables
  • Visual identity
  • Website design
Jonas Normann is a photographer. His aim is to capture honesty through his work with portraits, documentaries, and corporate photography.
Like his approach to photography, we wanted to craft a design which would be an honest resemblance of him. To do this, we made his handwriting into a custom typeface. As he digitalizes films, a thin line of film is left framing his images. We designed elements to behave as they would in our real world, to give the digital format an analog touch like his photography.

Social eating for social change. Radikal Hospitality is a mix of art, activism, and dining. They host dinners and events where they urge guests to experience food differently, invite discussions on societal issues, and galvanize collective, communal action. Food being at the center.
Radikal Hospitality’s guests are the inspiration for the design. Admired by their community and self-expression the aesthetic is bold, with shapes in the design that are harsh, others soft. Together, the shapes merge, collectively sharing Radikal Hospitality’s message.
The website is a place to understand what Radikal Hospitality is, their message, and what they do. Also, to explore the nuances of food, as sustenance, a setting for connection, a tool for power...

I'm Emma, a communication designer based in Esbjerg, working where inspiration strikes.
I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in social design called Design for People at Design School Kolding, in addition to my professional bachelor's degree in graphic communication from The School of Visual Communication, UC Syd.
I do a lot because design, at its core, is solving problems. This makes me a researcher, facilitator, project manager, and communication designer. Now, what I do the most, is watch reality TV and design brands and digital content for small businesses.
